Wedgie! Sticks Foul Ball Catcher Josh Bard Covered With Mariners

Wedgie! Sticks Foul Ball Catcher Josh Bard Covered With Mariners
It was clear throughout the afternoon - and perhaps the entire season - the Seattle Mariners need to wake up. Unfortunately, catcher Josh Bard (notes), when the call finally, he had received. Yet, unfortunately, did nothing to jump start his team's 3-0 loss to Oakland Athletics have - a game where their offense was a three-hit the starter Brandon McCarthy (notes).
The alarm rang at the bottom of the sixth inning, with Bard behind the plate connected to the discharge of its functions. Oakland Cliff Pennington (Notes) came out two and got a pretty good piece by Michael Pineda (notes) with the first pitch 93 mph fastball, but dirty, directly to the concierge-style hockey mask worn by the Bard.
And when I say in the mask, I do not mean to hit the mask and bounced down or diverted. I mean, literally, in the mask, which is wedged between the two bars.
Bard later admitted that he was temporarily stunned effect. This may explain why he asked the plate umpire Bill Welke said of the house before the ball got stuck again in his old mask.
"I think it was just one of those moments when he was an ideal location and perhaps a softer ball than normal," said Bard. "It just stuck. Of course, I am grateful that I still have my eye and nose. I have a lot of nose, "he joked. "So it's all good."
It stuck there pretty good.
It seems that the mask has a new handle!
After a few good tugs, the ball was finally dislodged. Bard then turned to his mask, saw fit to continue, and a game with little effect on classification. But hey, it's these moments that play to the chain of the trouble for everyone.
Well, except maybe for the fishermen.
Speaking of the kidnappers, and wedges, Mariners skipper Eric Wedge, catcher in his day, says he has never seen a ball hangs in the mask during his career. He also questioned the decision to join the Bard is likely to damage the mask.
"I could not take the mask back there, because if it got stuck, which was about to happen, but sticks to the skin."
I went to the skipper on one.
