Bachmann, Creates A Firestorm For Joking Hurricane Is God's Message
Hurricane Irene and the recent earthquake in the east coast were directed against American politicians, according to a statement from Michele Bachmann.
Minnesota congressman and presidential candidate told the crowd gathered at Shriner's Temple in Sarasota, Fla., Sunday, that God was trying to communicate a message through fiscal responsibility to the two recent natural disasters. St. Petersburg Times:
I do not know how much God has to do to attract the attention of politicians. We had an earthquake, which had a hurricane. He said: "Are you going to start listening to me here? Listen to the American people, because the American people are roaring now. They know it is a system of government of morbid obesity and we need to curb spending.

Bachmann's comments powered Firestorm just media attention. In follow-up, Bachmann campaign said Monday the candidate's results were just a joke, according to Talking Points Memo.
"Obviously, it was said jokingly," spokeswoman Alice Stewart said in a statement TPM.
Stewart did not immediately respond Monday to request tickets for comment.
A clip aired Monday showed Bachmann's comments in Parliament clearly smiling and almost laughing as she delivers a similar message from "the wrath of God" in this speech. Watch the video below via MSNBC:

Bachmann, a Lutheran who has long stressed his personal relationship with God in public forums. Previously, he revealed that while serving senator, asked God for guidance, "and only through prayer, I knew I had to introduce an amendment to marriage in Minnesota," which are defined marriage between a man and a woman. He also said that God gave him and his visions of her husband to marry one another before their first meeting, and that God has called him to run Congress.
For some, immediately Bachmann comments this weekend brought to mind televangelist Pat Robertson, who claimed infamous Hurricane Katrina was a punishment from God for legalized abortion.
